Hello Again!

....after almost three blissful weeks in the beautiful south of France
I am back refreshed, relaxed and invigorated....
.....hello again :)

....our destination, Villefranche-sur-Mer....this is the old town where we stayed and this was our daily view from the beach....just look that beautiful clear water!

....our little street....

....I lost the job of "bread girl" pretty quickly to my daughter!

....Cap Ferrat as seen from Eze-sur-Mer....Villefranche is the other side of the bay....

....a boy and his boat....happy days....

....the famous Monte Carlo casino....and on the right the beautiful Hotel de Paris....

....Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, Cap Ferrat....

(if you ever visit this part of France, you must visit this Villa, it is gorgeous!)

....we love this part of France.....the Cote d'Azur, the French Riviera....and have spent many summers there....it's our happy place....

There are the crowds, huge hotels and vast beaches of Cannes and Nice....and the glitz and glamour of Monaco....but there are also have the beautiful ports, private bays and raw landscapes of Villefranche, Cap Ferrat, Cap d'Ail and Eze....quiet, simple, stunning and oh, so French....

....we always spend a lot of time on the beach....just playing, swimming in the crystal clear waters, relaxing, reading (in the first 10 days I read 7 books!)....and eating delicious ice cream....

....we went on some wonderful walks, cruised on a boat along the coast and sailed into the harbour in Monaco, visited Monaco in the evening for two fantastic firework displays, cooked seafood fresh from the port and ate the most delicious food every day, went to Italy, visited the nearby Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most beautiful homes in the world with definitely the best views....

....it's a great location....so many other fabulous places nearby to visit....

....Eze-sur-Mer....reached by windy roads (and some nerve-wracking hairpin bends) on a small bus....the best views of the Mediterranean by far, just breathtaking....

Cap Ferrat....this has a simplicity that belies the fact that it is home to many of the rich, famous and titled....gorgeous secluded villas hidden behind wrought iron gates....and home to just one main cafe that serves wonderful sandwiches and ice cream desserts to die for....

Monaco....a really fun place to visit.....its harbour hosts some of the most fabulous multi-million pound super-yachts in the world.....it houses some amazing apartment blocks (many of which are barely lived in but just for tax purposes only, the actual population is pretty small)....the Monte Carlo Casino is a must-see as is the stunning Hotel de Paris.....and the views from the Royal Palace are excellent....I love to visit for the day, enjoy its energy and then return to my quiet beach!

Italy....only 35 mins away on a very picturesque train ride.....we went just for the morning and visited the fabulous food market there.....

the best parts of my holiday....

....my daughter going to the bakery every day and listening to her happily making friends on the beach....all in French
....sailing along the coast to Monaco....
....pizza and champagne on the beach on our last night....
.....reading to my heart's content....
....seeing my 4 year old son's swimming improve so much....
....the Spanish firework display in Monte Carlo....best display ever....

I have to say a huge thank you to my guest-bloggers....Nikki at BellaMumma, Dustjacket Attic, Mimi Charmante, Trish, Liz, Marsha Splenderosa, Melissa, ....I absolutely loved reading your posts, thank you so much for all agreeing to write something for me....they were all brilliant....thank you too for your kind words...you girls are wonderful!

Monday Thoughts....

....3,985 minutes til I step on board that aeroplane, heading for the cote d'Azur, the French Riviera, Villefranche sur Mer....
(wishing that this was me in the photo above....knowing that it never will be tho. But that's ok!)

our happy place....

i've been packed for about 5 days now. even my hand luggage is pretty much packed.
i'm not sure i've ever looked forward to a holiday this much....
euros ready.
pedicure booked.
french taxi from Nice airport booked.
currently 91/33 degrees there. phew.
can.not.wait.
did i mention that? ;)

my daughter has returned from Wales.
we are four again.
things are as they should be.

i took the train to collect her yesterday.
2hrs20min with the largest coffee i could buy, a great book and the sunday times.
absolute bliss.
it really is the simple things.

i love a train journey.
england is so beautiful.
it's a lovely way to travel and unwind.
i dream of a long train journey one day....travelling across the Rockies, across Russia, through Europe.
so romantic.

i am reading such a fantastic book, "What is the What" by Dave Eggers,
i can't tell you much i am enjoying it - thank you Heather for the recommendation :)

Happy Monday!!

Friday Fabulousness....

....what a great list....absolutely fantastic....

....I am a great reader and know that feeling of never wanting a book to end - and then not wanting to start another book because you want to stay with the old book just a little longer.....reading is such a gift isn't it?

I am planning a summer of reading....I bought a couple of books yesterday to add to my collection (which was probably more than ample already!)....and made a special "summer bookshelf" today....any recommendations? :)

....I love Emma Watson and this image is one of my absolute favourites....

....this is where we spend our summer hols...Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera....gorgeous isn't it....I can actually see our apartment from here! We stay in the old town....no cars, cobbled narrow streets, steep stone steps and tall townhouses....all painted such beautiful colours....perfection....

....the perfect spot for a little reflection....

....last week-end we camped with friends. Last year I referred to it as "glamping" but this year it was definitely camping! Thank goodness for great friends and the sheer joy on my childrens faces....it 'almost' distracted me from the dust and the ant invasion in my tent....my son could not believe his luck!! We did drive down a long long country lane which was lined with the most beautiful burnt orange poppies....I love these, there's always something so poignant about poppies....

....via the breathtaking Dustjacket Attic ....check out her blog to see more of these....
photos by Olivia Graham....

....via Hey Gorgeous....go take a look at the rest of this amazing wedding....
photos by Stephanie Williams Photography....

....no words necessary for this one....just breathtaking....you would never want to leave would you....

....I love you Penelope Cruz....so gorgeous!

It's been a hot and busy week in London....the end of the school term is back-to-back events as usual....
my son only has two more weeks of preschool before he starts full-time school in September....
so I am really trying to make the most of our time together....

I am also - on the other hand - trying to focus on finding the perfect swimwear for my summer holiday....multi-tasking at its finest I think you will agree! Shopping with a four year boy in tow (which I generally am) can be challenging at the best of times....one of those times being when you are attempting to try on swimsuits at great speed in a changing room the size of a red London telephone box which appears to have been heated to sauna level temperatures...and all the while your little companion-turned-stylist is trying to see if he can fit underneath the changing room door whilst simultaneously commenting loudly on which swimwear looks good and not-so-good, much to the amusement of your neighbouring changing room occupants.....it's not easy!! (My shopping trips will be much duller without him in the autumn....I do realise that!)

This week-end we will be....
swimming, attending a class picnic, shopping, baking, going to the movies, probably watch the World Cup Final (while not really minding who wins), celebrating my husband's birthday....and hopefully taking a little time out too....

PS My challenge for the week-end is to make the perfect mojito....I had one last night when I was out and it was good but not great....so that is my fun mission for the week-end....all tips and suggestions gratefully received :)

Happy Week-end everyone....
thank you, as always, for all your fantastic comments....
