Everyday 100 to 200 soldiers fly into DFW from Iraq and Afghanistan and everyday they are met with a hero's welcome. These men and women have been fighting for OUR freedom day in and day out and are flying home for their two weeks of R&R (many are just flying through on their way to their actual home). DFW has a special program where dozens (or even hundreds) of people are able to welcome our heroes home. Flags are provided, patriotic music is played and there are endless cheers as the soldiers came through the door.
I drove out to DFW to welcome home our heroes for the very first time yesterday. It was an AMAZING experience (if anyone lives in Dallas I HIGHLY encourage you to go, it is a MUST do!). We thanked the soldiers' families as they made their way to the front of the welcome area to greet their loved ones. We waved flags and held signs. We cheered loudly and thanked each of the men and women that walked by.
Yesterday, each soldier that came through was also given a box of girls scout cookies. There is nothing like a few Thin Mints after traveling for 20+ hours!
It was truly an honor to shake hands with these brave men and women and get to thank them face to face. Watching the children run to their parents and the pregnant wives hug their husbands left most of us in tears. We will never be able to thank them enough, but I am glad that I can at least give them a hero's welcome home to the home of the free and the land of the brave!!! God bless America!
*If a family member or friend of yours is ever flying through DFW please send on their arrival date as I would love to go welcome them!!
