The Goops

Something that my parents always worked on with me were good manners. There really is nothing worst than a child with poor manners in my opinion. You can be darling as can be and well dressed, but if you have poor manners you never get a pass in my book. While I did attend a manners class at Sea Island my parents constantly corrected me at home and worked with me, but I am still a work in progress. One of my favorite books about good manners was The Goops. NO one wanted to be a goop! I have included some of my favorite lines from the book below, enjoy!

The Goops
by Gelett Burgess

The Goops they lick their fingers,
And the Goops they lick their knives;
They spill their broth on the tablecloth --
Oh, they lead disgusting lives!
The Goops they talk while eating,
And loud and fast they chew;
And that is why I'm glad that I
Am not a Goop -- Are you?
The Goops are gluttonous and rude,
They gug and gumble with their food;
They throw their crumbs upon the floor,
And at dessert they tease for more.
They will not eat their soup and bread
but like to gobble sweets, instead,
And this is why I oft decline,
When I am asked to stay and dine!"
