A Night of Compassion

Several weeks back I received an email and an invitation from Compassion International to attend an event at my church with a former Compassion child. I had been looking forward to tonight's presentation and to say it was amazing would be an understatement. In fact, I got even more excited when I got a letter from Heydi, the little girl I sponsor in Honduras, yesterday. Just in reading her letter I could see that Compassion is at work in her life. Heydi's letter started out by saying "may God bless you" and ended with "I am praying for you." Even though we live thousands of miles apart I am able to help this nine year old living in a small village outside of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. She is given food, medicine, a school uniform and she is taught to love the Lord. We may not live close at all, but each night we go to bed worshipping the same, mighty God.

This evening Compassion put together a wonderful program on their Leadership Development Program. This is a branch of the organization I was not at all familiar with, but it so incredibly important in today's day and age. Through LDP you can sponsor a child that has graduated from Compassion and has the potential to be a true leader in their community and their country.

One of the men featured in the video was our speaker this evening. When Richmond Wandera got up to give his testimony I could see the amazing commitment Compassion has to children surrounded by poverty, it radiated from him. Not only does this organization give children the critical foundation they need, but it allows them to grow and flourish! Perhaps one of the most powerful parts of Richmond's story was when he mentioned that a fellow Compassion student and dear friend did not get into LDP (20 were choosen in Uganda and only about 100 around the globe). However, Richmond and his friends that had been accepted wanted to give their friend a chance. So, they pooled the little extra money they had and they now support a LDP student through Compassion! Richmond is just one of the many stories that have come out of the LCD program and Compassion. He grew up in the slums, but recently has met with the First Lady of Uganda and hopes to bring change to his country. He will be the first one to tell you to God be the glory and he would not be where he is today if it were not for Compassion International.

To listen to Richmond's entire testimony go here. Prepare to be amazed at the work God has done in his life!

Compassion International gives children all over the world a chance at a better life with your help! If you are interested in learning more about Compassion or sponsoring a child (it is only $38 a month be a sponsor and then $300 a month to be an LDP sponsor) go here.

Are you ready to change a life?
