Italy Part 2....windows, gates and doors....oh my!

So when I got back from Italy and I looked through my photos, I realised that the majority of my photos were of buildings.....and windows, gates and doors!

The variety of styles just fascinated me as did the fact that most of these were built for practical reasons by people who weren't necessarily builders or craftsmen - in fact they almost certainly weren't - they were just functional and built for a particular purpose by the family and friends who owned the home. Many of the stone buildings are hundreds of years old.....I love imagining who might have lived in them or sat in them for a church service....there is something very comforting about it, I suppose it is that feeling of us all being connected in some simple way.....

My husband's Nonna's oven....

The church tower at Luisa's church....

The church tower of Giovanni's church....

The original church in Costa built in the 1500's - this now stands next to the newer church....
