My lovely newly engaged friend Jenni over at She Can't Decide....was kind enough to give me this Happy 101 award....thank you! I need to share with you 10 things that make me happy....
1. My bed....I love a large bed with lots of different shaped pillows, crisp white bedlinen and neutral covers....somewhere calming and quiet. I don't spend nearly enough time sleeping or in my bed....but oh, I do love being there :)
2. Coffee....I am equally happy having a coffee alone in a cafe or having coffee and chatting with a group of friends.....I love a large latte with probably a cookie or a muffin on the side.....maybe reading a newspaper or just catching up on some news gossip :)
3. Wales....I have lived in London since I was six years old but I was born in Cardiff, Wales and all my relatives on both sides are Welsh. There is a saying in Wales that " To be born Welsh is to be born privileged. Not with a silver spoon in your mouth, but music in your blood, and poetry in your soul." I spent all my childhood holidays in Wales and although I love London, my heart is without a doubt Welsh through and through....I feel a connection with Wales as soon as I arrive there. Wales is a nation that loves to sing and standing in the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff singing the Welsh National Anthem at a rugby game is one of the most moving experiences ever, I (along with many others), have yet to sing it without tears in my eyes....I only have to hear the first few bars of it and I have a lump in my throat!
4. Movies....I go to the cinema a lot and just love the whole experience....I will watch most things apart from Sci-Fi and anything that will scare the pants off me. I love old movies too though, my mother brought us up sharing her love of classic films so I have seen many of them quite a few times! I do love old musicals and was moved to tears at a clip of Judy Garland as Dorothy singing "Over the Rainbow" the other day.....absolutely beautiful.
6. Cookies....I wish I could say something healthy like berries or celery.....but no, it's freshly baked soft cookies. End of story :)
6. Peace and quiet.....I love being in a group but I have always enjoyed my own company and love spending time alone....
7. Magazines......I LOVE magazines....give me a whole pile of new issues and I will be a very happy girl. I can't really be too specific regarding how many I actually read each month since my husband does read my blog from time to time....but let's just say that when we came back from Italy in the summer, we thought our front door was jammed....it was actually the pile of subscriptions inside on the doormat that were waiting for me to arrive home. Well, they're cheaper than diamonds....that's what I say :)
8. Flowers....I must buy them more often....and stop to smell them....
9. Friends....I am blessed with a great number of girlfriends.....really blessed. My oldest girlfriends are my university friends, now all married with children, we see each other twice a year....I wish it was more often but we longer live that close to each other. My "mum" friends I see every day at school and with them I am lucky enough to be part of a wonderful group who go out for dinner once a month, who go away together, our husbands also go out together and we go on a mammoth camping trip every June....last year I think there were 80 of us! I also have some very special friends who I have met via the internet - you know who you are! - who are as close to me as sisters, we have shared all kinds of experiences.....and people too who I have met through blogging with whom I struck up a true connection. I think the older you get the more you appreciate your female friends, it really is a gift for which you can never say thank you enough....
(taken a few years ago when my son was just a few days old....)
10. My children....coming in at no. 10 but really top of the list are my son and daughter who are everything I ever dreamed of....apart from those days when I wonder how far I could get before they noticed I was gone (only joking!) My daughter is a quiet and gentle girl, kind and eager to please....she reminds me very much of me as a little girl, only with a little more confidence I hope. My son on the other hand was born seeing everything as something to be climbed, conquered, tackled....or drawn on....he has the confidence of a Roman general conquering Britain. She is a wonderful big sister and he adores her.
This was a lot of fun putting this together Jenni....it's hard to choose just 10 actually isn't it, I tried to stick to everyday things. I read many blogs and they all make me happy but I am going to ask the following bloggers to choose their Happy 101 10 things.....should they wish to participate....
